Don’t you compare

If you were doing any Sin yesterday (Feb 24, 2010) Don’t worry. You won’t be punished. God was busy watching Sachin making a world record.

A truly awesome moment to see that its Indian (once again) making history with the bat. I felt happier than when I saw Yuvraj Singh made six sixes in a single over.. a bit more exciting than watching Sehwag scoring 300 at will in tests… Equally delightful as India won the inaugural T20 world cup….

200 was always never easy and you gotto watch how he made it look like a walk in the park… The next immediate sentence I saw in many sites are ‘Anwars 194 was a better one given the toughness to reach that score in those cricketing era were team reaching 300 is literally winning score’…. A 100% stupid statement….

Anwar is a good batsman. No Offence but comparing a mole to mountain’s achievement is so absurd. Here is the comparison thingy to underline the flawless achievement made yesterday.

Anwar got a runner in 19th over and the team score is around 320. Means, after 20th over Anwar’s concentration was only to hit and stay cool with out bothering much about anything else happens. Tendulkar played whole 50 overs running for himself and for others took teams total to 400 and tendulkar did it at an age where many of them watching the match with their grand kids (exhaturated out of frusturation ) ; )

Anwar was lucky with 3 drop catches. Tendulkar showed the youngsters how to bat with out giving a chance.

Anwar scored against a below par Indian bowling attack with bowlers like joshi, kuruvilla, Prasad and co. Tendulkar scored against bowling machines like Steyn, Parnell, Langeveldt and co.
Apart from the 194, Anwar never scored above 150 in any other match. The master blaster got 5 already under his belt and still more to come.

If I gotto be unbiased with the comparison I can give credit to Anwar as he scored this in the away pitch. Still, Chennai crowd is known for supporting good game unlike eden gardens known for crazy about Indian win. So, I don’t see a big credit factor.

The verdict is ‘Though Sachin is known for his keen eye to personal records attitude, it always served the purpose of lifting the nations image in international arena and therefore like any other Cricket mad Indian, I am happy that the first 200 in this format is achieved by the one who exactly deserve than any other cricketer in the world.’

The upcoming special moments will be fifty 100s in test, fifty 100s in ODI and eventually hundred 100s in International cricketing career.

Back to Reading ways… ; )

Firstly, don’t be puzzled with the title of the post. The reading here has nothing related to studies or exams or anything that a typical Subcontinent dude can think as ‘Sensible’… The reading here describes the pure passion of admiring the authors skills in terms of innovation, narration, description, style, imagination etc. I was so admired by many people here in Singapore who gives good preference to reading especially in trains… I thought why not….

I started off reading few books like world is flat, the earth is my butt, the 2 states and now the most recent one was the Namesake by Jumpa lahiri.. This particular book Namesake is too good in its own merit. Firstly, the author an American-indian even though sticks to American vocabulary, used a lovely narration that makes a reader to feel the protagonist’s pain all over. Another highlight is that this is the only time I have studied a book and watched the movie made of the same book entirely. I must confess, the stupid thing I have done by watching the movie and I guess any book reader will agree that a movie can never match the book when it comes to same story. The obvious reason being the imagination of the reader is more vivid than a movie watcher. When you read you can imagine the characters, places, events as the power and versality of your imagination takes. However, when you watch, the imagination is all limited to the visuals you got infront and that makes you dumb at times….

The Namesake is the story of an Indian family migrated to USA and the transition between these 2 worlds starting from 1980s through the eyes of weirdly named boy called Gogol. The typical Indian parents, the American culture the son grows in, the weird name, life-of-uncertainty every thing grips up the story and gives enough fuel to the author to entertain the readers and make them immersed in emotions. I also felt its important and suggest this to any first generation immigrant parents to any country outside india. Probably, this book gives the insight of what the kids may feel when they grown with a Indian family in a non-indian surrounding.

As the movie is concerned, it’s a big let down and no wonder it’s a flop inspite of having the all classic star cast in the movie. I understand you can not fill everything in 1.5 hours time but may be as I read the book, felt the movie is super fast and skipped important events covered in the book.

As a whole, The Namesake is must to read and better not to watch.
