Orkut is an online webcommunity to make friends... i was using this for about 5 to 6 months ... the whole design was interesting and it is a magnet (i shud say) has the extreme power of attraction... specially with all IT guys... the chief advantages of it are
- you can catch up wth any old mates through the appropriate communty (say your school group or college group or work group)
- u can scrap any one (u dont have to be his friend)
- u can see any ones profile in the orkut world (again u don have to kno him to see his profile)
- u can upload pics and have a nice and handy album for others to see
- community forums are ther to have a common discussion about anything regarding the commnty...
as the above features attracted me, i slowly got addicted to orkutting and later i happen to realize these features actually are the biggest draw backs either....
- --> catching up old mates <-- this is very much useless... may b one in 1000 will b bothered to reply u even if u catch yr old mates.... if u really wanna stay in touch wth yr old mates u wudnt hav lost ther contacts.... for those lost contacts one of u 2 won b keen to b in touch for ever (atleast i found this in my experience)
- -->scrap any one <-- so do they, i can find many non sense scraps ...not jus in mine, even wth my frnds scraps... most of them are anonymous...(no privacy) why the hell shud some one else know about what u talking to yr frnd...u can mail em rather...
- -->can watch any ones profile<--no privacy again...this really sucks (specially for girls)
- -->can upload pics<-- this is quite a dangerous feature... many girls caught in this trap... they upload ther pics and many evil elements are mis using the pics to morph and black mail the girls....(atleast this feature shud b evacuated)
- -->commty forums<-- people use mock accounts and start posting all those offensive, illegal, idiotic posts that irritates many using it... i can see many useless cmmtys like i hate india, i hate tamils , i hate myself, pessimists and bla bla bla....
- waste of time.... hours are wasted on this by exploring mostly useless stuffs... (don ask me wat in the world are u doing by saving those critical minutes ;) even sleeping is good i guess)
however, the above are still fun for the fun loving people but literally makes u an addict ... i hate myself to refresh the orkut page every now and then to see if i got any messages.... many peeping in to my frnds profile jus coz they kno me... i feel guilty as myself being a bridge to reveal my frnds details as well ... i thought the whole concept of orkut is a kinda absurd and proper attention to be given so as to solve the concerned negative issues...
this is jus my opinion and i am not anticipating any one to agree with me... but i jus wud like to warn my mates to be carefull with this danger that might take u to any extent.... frnds, no matter if u do orkutting but make sure u stay safe and fine... specially girls b carefull with this extremely dangerous predator (orkut) .... :)

every technology(softwares) has got itz merits and demerits.. we should balance both and be secured..
scraps are meant for scrapping.. if you dont scrap the scraps, then you have to pay for it ;-)..
orkut is meant for browsing through every one's profile... and of course the user has to take precautionary measures and can use it constructively..
If not for orkut, i wouldn't have got a nice friend like you :)
